Life Eternal

He that believes on the Son has life eternal; he that believes not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him ~John 3:36

CHAPTER 3: VERSE 1

But there was a man of the Pharisees, his name was
Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews;

VERSE 2

…he came to him by night and said to him: Rabbi, we know
that from God thou hast come as a teacher; for no one can do
these signs that thou doest, unless God be with him.

VERSE 3

Jesus answered and said to him:

JESUS

Verily, verily, I say to thee,
unless a man be born again, he
cannot see the kingdom of God.

VERSE 4

Nicodemus says to him:

NICODEMUS

How can a man be born when he is
old? Can he enter the second time
into his mother’s womb and be born?

VERSE 5

Jesus answered:

JESUS

Verily, verily, I say to thee,
Unless a man be born of water and
the Spirit, he cannot enter into
the kingdom of the heavens.

VERSE 6

JESUS

That which is born of the flesh is
flesh, and that which is born of
the Spirit is spirit.

VERSE 7

JESUS

Wonder not that I said to thee: You
must be born again.

VERSE 8

JESUS

The wind blows where it pleases,
and the sound of it thou hearest,
but thou knowest not whence it
comes and whither it goes: so is
every one that is born of the
Spirit.

VERSE 9

Nicodemus answered and said to him:

NICODEMUS

How can these things take place?

VERSE 10

Jesus answered and said to him:

JESUS

Art thou the teacher of Israel and
knowest not these things?

VERSE 11

JESUS

Verily, verily, I say to thee, that
which we know we speak, and that
which we have seen we testify, and
our testimony you receive not.

VERSE 12

JESUS

If I have told you earthly things
and you believe not, how will you
believe if I tell you of heavenly
things?

VERSE 13

JESUS

And no one has ascended into heaven
but he that came down from heaven,
the Son of man, who is in heaven.

VERSE 14

JESUS

And as Moses lifted up the serpent
in the wilderness, so must the Son
of man be lifted up;

VERSE 15

JESUS

…that every one that believes in
him may have life eternal.

VERSE 16

JESUS

For God so loved the world, that he
gave his only begotten Son, that
whoever believes on him might not
perish, but have life eternal.

VERSE 17

JESUS

For God sent not the Son into the
world to condemn the world, but
that the world might be saved
through him.

VERSE 18

JESUS

He that believes on him is not
condemned: he that believes not is
condemned already, because he has
not believed on the name of the
only begotten Son of God.

VERSE 19

JESUS

But the condemnation is this, that
light has come into the world, and
men loved darkness rather than
light; for their works were evil.

VERSE 20

JESUS

For every one that does evil hates
the light, and comes not to the
light, lest his works may be
reproved;

VERSE 21

JESUS

…but he that does the truth comes
to the light that his works may be
made manifest that they are wrought
in God.

VERSE 22

After this came Jesus and his disciples into the land of
Judea, and there he abode with them and baptized.

VERSE 23

But John also was baptizing in Enon near Salem, because much
water was there; and they came and were baptized;

VERSE 24

…for not yet had John been cast into prison.

VERSE 25

There arose therefore a discussion, on the part of some of
the disciples of John, with a Jew, about purification.

VERSE 26

And they came to John and said to him:

JEW

Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond
the Jordan, to whom thou hast
testified, behold, he baptizes and
all come to him.

VERSE 27

John answered and said:

JOHN

A man cannot receive anything
unless it be given him from heaven.

VERSE 28

JOHN

You yourselves will testify for me
that I said: I am not the Christ,
but that I am sent before him.

VERSE 29

JOHN

He that has the bride is the
bridegroom; but the friend of the
bridegroom, who stands and hears
him, greatly rejoices because of
the voice of the bridegroom. This
my joy therefore has been
fulfilled.

VERSE 30

JOHN

He must increase, but I must become
less.

VERSE 31

JOHN

He that comes from above is over
all: he that is of the earth is of
the earth and speaks of the earth.
He that comes from heaven…

VERSE 32

JOHN

…testifies of what he has seen
and heard, and his testimony no one
receives.

VERSE 33

JOHN

He that has received his testimony
has attested that God is true.

VERSE 34

JOHN

For he whom God sent speaks the
words of God; for not by measure
does he give the Spirit.

VERSE 35

JOHN

The Father loves the Son, and has
given all things into his hand.

VERSE 36

JOHN

He that believes on the Son has
life eternal; he that believes not
the Son shall not see life, but the
wrath of God abides on him.
